The Influence of Informal Communication on Bond Creation
in Computer Mediated Communication

卒論のアブストラクト。
要は、オンライン会議であっても、
個人の属性に関する情報をメンバーが交換すれば、
Face to Faceと遜色ない親近感が構築出来きるということを実証した実験の説明。

Abstract:
   The possibility of personal connection and informal organization in computer mediated communication (CMC) is presented in this paper. Based on the understanding that growing CMC type collaboration is unavoidable trend in more and more globalized society, we designed experiments to see if personal information exchange can be helpful to develop personal relationship which is necessary condition for informal organization.
   Informal organization is an important concept when we discuss how organization works, which is pointed out by organizational scientists (Barnard, 1983). The most important function of informal organization is to provide with organization the ability to attain the goals of less-structured tasks, which is difficult to attain only with formal organization. Informal organization is, however, seldom appears under computer mediated communication, because there hardly exists any chances to get to know each other personally and develop personal relationship.
   The experiment was conducted in 2 (face to face or computer mediated) by 2 (with personal information or without personal information) conditions. We asked two groups of participants (two people for each group) to work for a group task, which requires them to work as a team. In computer mediated condition, participants are allowed to communicate each other using video chat, and in face to face condition, they can communicate directly. In "with personal information" condition, personal information is disclosed for each participants, while in "without personal information" condition, personal information of each participants is not disclosed.
   The results clearly show the possibility that personal information exchange develop personal relationship even in computer based collaboration. Measurement to evaluate personal bond is proposed as a result of factor analysis. Core ideas to create personal relationship in CMC and further necessity of research in CMC to find out the means to develop informal organization are discussed.
